Here we have an interesting dagger out of an advanced collection with a rare chased scabbard. This dagger has been upgraded over it's life. Starting life as a model 1914 Bulgarian Tsarist Navy dagger this was upgraded with a new blade, portepee and a new pommel during the third Reich. These hand chased scabbards were an expensive special order in the period. They were expensive then and are expensive now! These are 100X rarer than a chained SS and 100X more work went into them. The plain blade sports a stamped "over the shoulder" trademark. Why the new blade is a mystery lost to time. The blade on this one rates a solid Exc++. There remains a red felt buffer pad. The dent-free brass based, gold gilded, chased scabbard is the real prize to this piece! It is an extremely rare design which displays a ton of handwork. It was obviously done by a skilled craftsman! Both throat retaining screws remain intact. The brass based and gold gilded hilt it also had worked. The proud Kreigsmarine eagle pommel are both beautifully detailed! The hilt and scabbard match in color, condition and patina. The chip and crack-free celluloid over wood grip looks great. The double twist brass wire wrap remains tightly intact! So the question on this one is when was all this work done? I can not say for sure and possibly post-war, regardless I have priced this very reasonable and reflective of the parts alone!
