Das Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918 mit Schwertern im Etui by F&Co. The Honor Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords was awarded to all front-line veterans who where participants of WWI. It is constructed out of a die struck steel base that has been bronze plated. The obverse depicts a centrally placed “1914 1918” surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath, that is open at the top and tied together at the bottom, which is in front of a pattée style cross, and above two crossed broad swords. The full back reverse is maker marked. The top has an integral bent over loop and ring which holds 6 inches of original black, white and red rayon ribbon. The award measures approximately 1 ½ inches wide and tall. The award comes housed in a rare case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained red leatherette. The exterior edge is lines in a pressed gold foil. The front features a tombak based, red enamel painted mushroom style push button. To the back is a magnetic piano hinge with a steel hinge-pin. The interior bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a grey velvet material that has a recessed area for the award. The interior top is constructed out of a pearl satin material and has an underlying pad and reads: “Treue um Treue von Hindenburg”. It measures 2 ½ inches wide by 3 5/8 inches deep by ¾ of an inch thick. A great assembly with a rare case!
