A Model 1934 - Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Ernst Rohm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31,1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time. After the Night of the Long Knives, Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated. For those who don’t know, this early large double oval C.E. Eickhorn trademark with the Röhm inscription is incredibly early. Great dagger here. This is the very 1st issue of Rohm daggers made by Eickhorn, the large double oval. These were quickly abandon for the smaller double oval trade mark in the first few months of production. Always a hit with collectors!! The blade is a bright example that has been cleaned at some point but it retains great blacking to the etch. It has a deep "Alles fur Deutschland" motto! The Rohm inscription is completely removed as is a very bit of the maker mark. The tip is perfect, the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc+. There is just a bit of age and a couple nail catchers to the top edge. Really this is better than the pics show! The brown repainted scabbard retains 99% of the paint and it does show the "orange peel" surface we often see on repaints. It remains completely oxidization free. The scabbard fittings look great with some minor wear. The ball has a bump to the very bottom and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is good. Nice hand chased nickel guards are exactly the ones Eickhorn used on early SA's. The reverse of the lower crossguard is gau stamped "Wf" and is bench marked "8", not necessary but always nice to see. The early wood grip has a hairline to the lower obverse and is personalized "E. William", the Vet who returned this? The correct solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed with a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 100% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. A special SA to add to your collection!
