Seitengewehr/Hirschfänger für Forstbeamte by Eickhorn. This thing is the epitome of Eickhorn craftsmanship! The 13 inch blade is a deep black triple etched example. It is Eickhorn stamped to the reverse- exactly as it should be. The etch is in fine condition having highly detailed panels depicting stags, dogs, and foxes, in hunting settings. The top edge has a perfect oak-leaf motif with a crisp distributor mark, "W. Michovius Cottbus". No, not necessary but always nice to see this went through the famous distributor. There is no sharpening. The factory green felt buffer is intact. Yes, for those of you, "in the know" it is assembler stamped under the felt! I rate the blade NM. The aluminum hilt is gilt washed with even and matching wear. Look at the way Eickhorn worked their trademark squirrel into the hilt, marketing genius!! Wonderful detail to the crossguard and clamshell with hand finished work to the detailed stag hooves. The "bone" grip shows some striations towards the top and minor wear. There are no chips. The scabbard has black leather with 100% coverage and 2 decorative lines impressed on each side. The stitching is all intact. The matching gilt washed fittings have scalloped edges where they meet the shell and are held intact by staples. The bottom has some small dents and hits. A nice example.
