A post WWII Federal Republic of Germany; “1957” Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung 3. und 4. Klasse für 4 und 12 Jahre Dienstzeit. Issued to German veterans who were awarded these during the Third Reich era. Production of these awards ceased in 1986. This would have been awarded a Wehrmacht service member who gave 4 and 12 years of service. The Long Service Award was retroactive throughout a service member's career, encompassing Reichswehr service as well as service dating during and before World War I. The awards are constructed out of an alloy metal base that has been silver washed / gold gilded. The obverse’s depict, in silver/gold, a national eagle, below: “Treue Dienste in der Wehrmacht” (Faithful Service in the Wehrmacht). The reverses depict a stylized “4” (silver) / “12” (gold) encircled by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the top and bottom. To the tops of the medals have soldered-on loops and rings which fasten the awards to the parade mount. The parade mount is made out of a plated stamped steel. The obverse features the blue rayon ribbon. The reverse has the steel pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures approximately 2 3/8 inches wide and tall.
