A c.1920-1930 Prussian Hausorden von Hohenzollern - Ritter Kreuz mit Schwertern by “W” - Richard Wagner. The Knight’s Cross with Swords of the Hohenzollern House Order (KCHHO) was founded in 1851, during Prussian König Friedrich Wilhelm IV’s reign. During WWI, it was an intermediate award to officers who had previously won the 1st and 2nd Class Iron Cross, yet prior to the Pour le Mérite. It is constructed out of a die stamped tombak base that has been gold gilded and contains multi-colored enamel work, all behind a protective lacquer coating. The obverse features a centrally placed House of Hohenzollern’s eagle surrounded by “Vom Fels Zum Meer” (From the Mountain to the Ocean) above a pattée style cross with crossed swords and wreath to the inside of the arms. The reverse displays Friedrich Wilhelm IV’s royal cypher surrounded by the inception date “Den 18. Lanar 1851.” (January 18, 1851), and is on that same style cross with swords and wreath to the inside arms. The top features a suspension golden hollow crown. The reverse of the crown has a round wire ribbon attachment piece that holds 2 ½ inches of black and white rayon ribbon. Great enamel and gilding. The award measures 1 ½ wide by 2 ¼ inches tall. These decorations are becoming increasingly scarce.
