Early Model 1933 Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by HACO of Berlin. Now I say that and HACO was not a maker, rather a distributor who purchased their inventory from other manufacturers and from the design and the lines it was one of the Shul makers like Kober or Haenel. This just arrived from the Vet's family. Look at that patina!!! I picture this thing being in the house of a old Vet who chain smoked for 50 years after arriving home! The blade on this one has age and stain that I have not tried to clean. The blade is 3mm short so has been repointed but the width of 3 dimes for my US friends. The acid etched “Alles für Deutschland” motto and “Haco Berlin” maker mark are both crisp and beautifully executed! The crossgrain is easily visible. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point! It's never been apart. This blade rates Exc. There is spotting/age grey throughout. The steel based, brown anodized scabbard appears to be dent-free. It has some oxidation. The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look excellent matching the crossguards in color and patina! The ball has a few wee bumps, all four scabbard screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The reverse of the lower crossguard is marked “B” (Berlin). The light brown hardwood grip looks good. There are no chips or cracks. It shows the common pressure marks throughout. The solid nickel eagle retains beautiful details and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel has a good fit and retains 99%+ of its enamel. Included is a one piece hanger that has a broken clip. A real treat to get a nicotine patinaed piece.
