Imperial Otto Weddigen Commemorative Medal

Kaiserreich Silbermedaille 1914 by M. Ziegler. In commemoration of Otto Weddigen sinking three British armored cruisers HMS Aboukir, Hogue and Cressy on September 22, 1914 by the submarine U9. It is constructed out of a die stamped 900 silver base. The oobverse features the uniformed bust of Captain-Lieutenant Otto von Weddigen (1882-1915), underneath an arched: “Kapitänleutnant Otto Weddigen”, with “Ziegler” to the base. The reverse features a sinking ship, on fire, with two in the background and “22. Sept. 1914” above: “Die Vernkhtung der Englishen Panzerkreuzer Aboukir Hogue Cressy Durch U9”. The edge reads: “Silber 990”. It appears to have been cleaned. It measures 1 5/16 inches in diameter. Many variations to collect! Read more.
