A HJ Luftwaffenhelfer Hoheitsabzeichen. In 1943, as a part of the “Kriegshilfeinsatz der deutschen Jugend bei der Luftwaffe” (War Assistance Action of the German Youth within the Air-force), select members of the HJ who had reached the age of fifteen were to “volunteer” for auxiliary service in the Luftwaffe. It is constructed out of a black cotton base with light blue machine embroidered cotton stitching. The obverse features, in blue; a Luftwaffe eagle, with outstretched wings clutching a mobile swastika in one of its talons , below “LH” (Luftwaffenhelfer - Air Force Auxiliary) all within a downward pointing triangle, which all lies on a black backing. It retains a nice bright blue color. It measures 4 5/8 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches tall. A unique late war piece!
