Seitengewehr/Hirschfänger für Forstbeamte. The 16.5 inch blade is a triple etched example. It is in VG condition with etching that depicts: bores, stags, dogs, birds and hunters all in a hunting setting. The spine is distributor marked "M. NEUMANN HOPLIEFERANT BERLIN". There is some age darkening and fading to the etch throughout. There is sharpening and some darkening towards the tip. I have NOT tried to clean. The fits are perfect. The spine pattern is a leaf motif. The hilt is a finely cast example with nice detail in solid brass. The chip-free bone grip plates have striations throughout, as they should. They do have minor wear but no chips or cracks. These plates are decorated with six acorns. The "D" guard begins with a detailed hoof, and after passing through the crossguard, ends in a detailed hoof. The fluted clamshell has an Imperial guard crest pinned on it. Most likely the original owner had military service with the unit. The scabbard it black leather with all of the stitching remaining intact. The matching fittings show matching wear. They have scalloped edge where they meet the shell. The reverse upper is expertly Jeweler personalized "R.Tangermann s/1. R. Boggreve." All the patina matches. Fresh from the US Vet's family.
