A Deutsches Afrika Ärmelstreifen. Introduced on January 15, 1943, the Afrika Cufftitle was awarded to personnel who had been wounded, contracted a tropical illness, or had won a military award, regardless of the time served in the African theatre or war. It is constructed out of machine embroidered silver/grey rayon on a tan/brown camel hair wool base. The obverse features, in white; “AFRIKA”, which is flanked by two palm trees, all bordered by two horizontal white lines and all lies on a tan/brown base. The top and bottom edges have been folded over and stitched together with silver/grey stitching. It has the odd loose thread catch throughout. It retains nice color and soft texture! It measures 18 inches long by 1 7/16 inches tall. A great piece!
