Imperial Navy S.M.S. Elbing Cap Tally

Kaiserliche Marine S.M.S. Elbing Mützenband. The SMS Elbing (light cruiser) was ordered by the Imperial Russian navy under the name Admiral Nevelskoy from the Schichau-Werke shipyard in Danzig in 1913. Following the outbreak of World War I, the ship was confiscated in August 1914 and launched on November 21, 1914 as the SMS Elbing. It is constructed out of a black satin/rayon base with gold-colored machine stitched thread. The obverse reads, in gold: “S.M.S. Elbing” on a black base. The top and bottom have chain-like re-enforce stitching. It measures 40 1/2 inches long by 1 5/16 inches wide. Read more about the: SMS Elbing.
