Khedive's Star 1884

Khedive's Star 1884 - Private Charles Cox of the 1st Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment. The Khedive's Star was awarded to all British and Indian Army soldiers had received the British Egypt Medal and took part in the Egypt and the Sudan military campaigns between 1882 and 1891. The 1884 dated star was in relation to the first Suakin Expedition and awarded for operations between February 19, 1884, and March 26,1884. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been chemically burnished. The obverse features a centrally placed sphinx in front of three pyramids, within a circular border that has; “Egypt 1884”, two small stars, and the corresponding Arabic inscription within it, above a star. The five-point star has a lined border edge to the crevasses. The reverse has a crowned monogram of Tawfiq Pasha surrounded by: “1732 P.t.e. Charles Cox 1st Y&L.R.” (Regimental Number, Rank, Name, Battalion, Unit), within a circular border above a star. To the top in an integral loop and ring which is attached to a suspension bar, which features two laurel leaf and berry branches behind a crescent and star which holds 6 inches of blue ribbon.
