Kaiserliche Marine - U-Bootkriegsabzeichen 1918 by Walter Schot fee. Instituted February 1, 1918, by Kaiser Wilhelm II, the U-Boat War Badge was awarded to any individual who had proven themselves and had carried out at least three patrols against the enemy. Later exceptions were allowed for those wounded or two with two patrols and at least 150 days at sea. It is constructed out of a die struck buntmetall base that has been gold gilded. The oval shaped obverse depicts a U-Boat that is surrounded by a laurel leaf and ribbon wreath and is below a Prussian royal crown. The full back reverse is maker marked “Walter Schot fee” and features a soldered-on tombak block hinge, soldered-on round wire catch and replacement steel pin. The details throughout the U-boat, crown and wreath look excellent! It measures 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. Comes with a COA from Niemann.
