Kings South Africa Medal with Clasps

Great Britain, Second Boer War - King’s South Africa Medal with 1901/1902 Clasps - Named to a 1855 Private C. Keech of the Grenadier Guards. The King's South Africa Medal was awarded British and Colonial forces had active service during 1902, and who had served for at least 18 months by the end of the Second Boer War on May 31, 1902. The clasps were awarded for those who had service in 1901 or 1902 (between January and May). It is constructed out of a die stamped silver base. The obverse features the left facing bust of King Edward VII (in Field Marshal’s uniform), partially surrounded by an arched: “Edwardvs VII REX Imperator”. The reverse shows Britannia holding the Union Jack Flag in her left hand and a wreath in her right, in front of troops marching inland from the coast. To the left of Britannia are two war ships, a trident and Britannia’s shield on the ground. To the left it reads: “South” and “Africa”, right. The edge is nicely engraved: “1855 Pte C. Keech Grenadier Guards”. To the top is a single toe claw mount, with a nail head, that holds a straight swivel suspender that attaches both clasps, in roller chain fashion. The clasps read: “South Africa 1901” underneath “South Africa 1902”. There is a 5 ¾ inch orange, white and green ribbon running through the clasps and suspender. It is well worn. The medal measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
