Commemorative Medal of the Serbia War 1914-1918

Commemorative Medal of the Serbia War 1914-1918 by Huguenin Frères of Switzerland. Instituted in 1920, this medal was to commemorate the 1914-1918 war, and was awarded to all veterans, enlisted men, NCOs, and officers, Serbian and Allied, who participated in Serbia's liberation. It is constructed out of a die stuck bronze base that has been burnished. The obverse features the left facing effigy of King Peter I of Serbia, underneath an arched: “ПЕТАР I КРАЉ СРБИЈЕ” (Peter I King of Serbia), which is surrounded by a half oak leaf and acorn half laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together with ribbon, on top of an alésée style cross, with ball point ends, that has two cross broad swords coming through the inside of the arms, with “1914” to the top arm and “1918” to the bottom. The reverse features the Serbian heraldic eagle, with the dates “1915” (bottom), “1916” (right) and “1917” (left). The top ball loop is missing its ring and ribbon. The award measures 1 9/16 inches in diameter.
