Belgium - Imperial Cross of War w Distinction

Kingdom of Belgium - Croix de guerre / Oorlogskruis 1914-1918. Instituted October 25, 1915, the Cross of War was a military decoration awarded for bravery or other military virtue on the battlefield. It is a multi-piece construction made out of bronze that has been bronze washed and chemically burnished. The obverse features an encircled rampant lion on a Maltese style cross with ball point ends with crossed broad swords to the inside of the cross. The reverse features the royal cypher of King Albert I, on that same style cross and swords. To the top is a hinge inside a hollow high royal crown with orb that holds a ring. The ring holds the appropriate red and green Imperial ribbon. The obverse of the ribbon has a bronze (regimental level) palm adorned with the royal “A” monogram. The reverse has a stitched-on nickel-silver/brass pin, hinge and catch assembly. The award measures 1 9/16 inches wide by 2 7/16 inches tall. Overall, it is in excellent condition.
