United Kingdom - The Africa Star
United Kingdom, Commonwealth, WWII - The Africa Star. Instituted July 8, 1943, the Africa Star was awarded to those who served in North Africa between June 10, 1940 and May 12, 1943. It is constructed out of a die struck yellow copper zinc alloy base that has been bronze plated. The obverse features the Royal Cypher “GRI VI”, underneath a royal crown surrounded by “The Africa Star”, on a six-pointed star. The reverse is plain. The top has an integral eyelet and ring which holds 4 1/4 inches of tan, navy blue, red and light blue ribbon. The award measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 ¾ inches tall.
