Kingdom of Italy, WWI/Spanish Civil War - Regia Marina Sommergibili Distintivo. Introduced September 23, 1924, the Submariner Duty Badge was awarded to officer’s and senior NCO’s who had completed three submarine operations, served in a submarine for more than five years or served during World War I and the Spanish Civil War. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base that has been gold gilded. The obverse features an encircled dolphin underneath: “Sommergibili” and a Royal Italian crown. The fullback reverse has a soldered-on rectangular plate that holds a well working pin, hinge catch assembly. It measures 16mm wide by 24mm tall.
