Early SA Dagger by Haenel

Just purchased form the Veteran’s family. An Early Model 1933 - Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by C. G. Haenel of Shuhl. The bright blade on this one looks better now than when I got it. It obviously had to be cleaned. The acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and “Haenel C. G. Haenel Shuhl Waffen-u. Pahrrad Fabrik” maker mark still look good. Some crossgrain remains visisble. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfectly sharp point. The blade rates a Exc. It has heavy age grey/spotting throughout, along with the odd rough spot to the edge. The steel based brown anodized scabbard looks good. It has the matching oxidization spotting throughout. It remains completely dent free. The solid nickel scabbard fittings are in great condition with age patina matching the rest of the dagger. The ball retains a nice round shape, just the odd bump. All four screws remain intact. I put some grease inside the scabbard to stop any further oxidization, yet when you take the blade out some will be on it, just wipe it off with a paper towel if it bothers you. The scabbard / crossguard fit is near perfect and closes with a snap. The solid nickel-silver crossguards are in excellent condition. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gruppe stamped “Mi” (Mitte). The grip / crossguard fits are perfect. The typical Shuhl hardwood grip has some heavy hits. Still nice graining! The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed with a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 100% of its enamel. This one comes with a one-piece hanger. A desirable maker. Never been apart, or in a collection.
