Japanese, WWII, Imperial Japanese Army - Shussei Nobori. When men left for their military service, community organizations organized various celebrations, culminating in send-off parades to wish the troops well as they marched off to war. It is constructed out of multiple pieces of died silk. The rectangular shaped obverse features a wreathed Chrysanthemum flower, on top of two peaks, above two crossed Japanese flags (Rising Sun and Flag of Japan) that are tied together with a knotted tassel. Translation:
祝 (Shuku) “Congratulations!”
入営 (Nyu-é) “Enlistment”
細江弥代君 (Hosoe Yayo-kun) “Mr. Hosoe, Yayo”
金山駅前細江徳次 (Kanayama-eki Mae Hosoe Tokuji) Hosoe Tokuji, Kanayama (Nagoya) [train] Station
駅前(Eki-mae) Fronting the station. This is a common address for businesses/buildings, etc. located in front of a train station.
徳次 (given name) Tokuji / Tokutsugi / Noritsugu / Yosh¡tsugu.
The edges and hoist end features a purple brocaded texture with flower designs throughout. The fly end has a nice twisted yellow fringe. The hoist end is folded over and stitched together to form a loop. There is a wooden hanger and rope through the hoist end, I cannot say if its original to the piece. It measures 18 inches wide by 63 ½ inches tall.
