Narvik Campaign Arm Shield by Deumer

A “Filled In” - Kreigsmarine Narvikschild by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid. Instituted August 19, 1940, the Narvik Campaign Arm Shield was awarded to all German forces that took part in the battles of Narvik between April 9 and June 8, 1940. It is constructed out of die stamped tombak base that has been gold gilded, chemically blackened and attached, with tombak prongs, to an alloy plate that is hidden by a navy-blue/black wool to the front and glued on paper to the back. The obverse depicts a closed winged national eagle clutching a wreathed static swastika in its talons above a bannered “Narvik”, an edelweiss flower (Heer / Gebirgsjäger), that is flanked by “1940” (19 - left, 40 - right) and above a crossed plane propeller (Luftwaffe) and fouled anchor (Kriesmarine). This is all in a shield type outline that is surrounded by a quality unfinished navy-blue/black wool. To the reverse is a glued-on paper backing in the outline of the shield and the navy-blue/black wool. The shield continues to retain beautiful finish and detail. It measures approximately 2 1/4 inches wide by 4 1/4 inches high. A great addition for your collection!
