J2 - Flak-Kampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe by C.E. Juncker of Berlin. Instituted January 10, 1941, the Luftwaffe Flak Badge was awarded to those who had participated in 3 air defense actions (with a registered kill) or 5 air defense actions (regardless of a kill) or to the battery commander if half of their troops had been awarded the badge. It is constructed out of a two-piece die struck nickel-silver base that has been silver washed, chemically blackened and brennlack coated. The obverse depicts an anti-aircraft gun that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath and is below/behind a Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika in one of its talons. The full-back reverse of the badge correctly displays; a soldered-on tombak barrel hinge, soldered-on oval plate round wire catch and round wire pin. The plate is non-textbook and likely a period repair as the catch is obviously a Juncker type. All of the components are in well working condition! It has a crack to the top right-hand side. It measures 2 ½ inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. This variation features the missing hole punch and is not maker marked which is exactly as it should be.
