United States, WWII – Bronze Star. Instituted February 1944, the Bronze Star was awarded for bravery, acts of merit, or meritorious service. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed. The obverse features a small star on top of a larger embossed star. The reverse reads: “Heroic or Meritorious Achievement” in a circle on a star background. To the top is an integral rectangular ball loop and rectangular ring which holds a red, white and blue ribbon. The reverse has a bar and a soldered on pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures 1 3/8 inches wide and tall.
