United States - Air Medal Decoration Set by LIGI

United States, Vietnam War – Unissued cased Air Medal Decoration Set with Pendant Suspension Ribbon and Lapel Button by His Lordship Products Co. The Air Medal (AM) was established by Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 11, 1942. It was awarded for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been black burnished. The obverse features a centrally placed eagle volant carrying two lightning bolts in its talons on top of a sun. The reverse shows a sun. To the top is a fleur-de-lis loop and ring which holds blue and orange ribbon. The reverse has a bar that is likely maker marked: “LIGI” (His Lordship Products, Inc., New York, NY) with a pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures 1 5/8 in diameter. The medal comes housed in its original issue case that also holds the Pendant Suspension Ribbon and Lapel Button all covered in cellophane. The case measures 3 1/8 inches wide by 6 5/16 inches deep by 5/8 of an inch thick.
