A Luftschutz-Ehrenzeichen der 2. Stufe in Verleihungstüte by Förster & Barth of Pforzheim. Instituted January 30, 1938, the Air Defense Medal (2nd Class) was awarded to people who made a special contribution to air protection in Germany after January 30, 1938. It is constructed out of a die struck finezinc base that has been silver washed and chemically burnished. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed mobile swastika, that is surrounded by “Für Verdienste Im Luftschutz”/ “1938” (to reverse) and lies on a pebbled field, which is then all surrounded by an oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. To the top is an integral loop and tombak ring. The award measures 1 ½ inches in diameter. The medal comes with 10 ½ inches of its original issue folded blue, white, red and black rayon ribbon. The award and ribbon come housed in its appropriate matching issue paper packet. It is constructed out of tan brown paper that has been folded and glued together. The packer reads, in black gothic style ink: “Luftschutz-Ehrenzeichen der 2. Stufe” (obverse) and “Förster & Barth Pforzheim” (reverse). It measures 2 1/4 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall. A great assembly.
