Table Medal - Federal Main Bank Berlin

Erinnerungsplakette - Grunosteinlegung für den Erweiterungsbau der Reichs Hauptbank Berlin. On May 5, 1934, Hitler laid the Reichsbank’s extension foundation stone, with 6,000 guests, including Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Göring and Wilhelm Frick. It is constructed out of a die cast bronze base that has been chemically blackened. The obverse features the bust of President Hindenburg in front of the Führer Adolf Hitler, which is beside a small “JT” (designer - Josef Thorak) surrounded by “Grunosteinlegung für den Erweiterungsbau der Reichs Hauptbank Berlin”. The reverse features a naked man laboring to move the foundation stone by hand, which is marked “5.V.1934” (May 5, 1934). The non-portable award measures 2 5/16 inches in diameter. The award comes housed in its original issue case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that has been covered in a simulated grained black leather. The interior top lid is lined in pearl satin and has an underlying pad. The base has a recessed portion for the award above a string. The case measures 3 11/16 inches wide and deep by 7/8 of an inch thick. A rare minty piece!
