A Luftschutz Ehrenzeichen 2. Stufe Medaille. Instituted January 30, 1938, the Air Defense Medal 2nd Class was awarded to individuals who were active in Germany after January 30, 1933, in the field of air protection and had earned special merit. It is constructed out of a die struck cupal base that has been silver washed and burnished. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed mobile swastika which is surrounded by “Für Verdienste Im Luftschutz”/“1938” (reverse) on a pebbled field, and is surrounded by an acorn leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. To the top is an integral loop and ring which holds 3 1/4 inches of blue, red, white and black rayon ribbon. The award measure 1 9/16 inches in diameter.
