Hunting Association Cutlass by Carl Eickhorn

Germany, Weimar Republic (c.1921-1933) - Hirschfänger by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. The drop forged, fullered, spear point style blade on this one looks good. The stamped squirrel “CE” trademark is nicely executed. The blade rates Exc+. It has been cleaned, the cutting edge sharpened and it shows age grey and scratches throughout. The brown felt buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard body is made out of a brown leather base that has been stitched to the back. It shows a hint of detail with line impressions to the front and back. There are the typical pressure/scratch marks throughout. All of the stitching remains intact. The scabbard body has two blued steel fittings. Both have scalloped edges and are secured to the body with one staple each. Underneath each staple is the proof number “5”. The fitting show minor oxidization spots throughout. The scabbard sits securely up against the hilt. The hilt has a blued steel decorative guard, plain blued steel ferrule, stag horn grip and plain blued steel pommel top securing the hilt with a ball screw to the tang. The stag horn remains chip and crack free. It features nice colors with obvious age toning. Overall, this is a rare piece, missing from most collections!
