Hirschfänger für Forstbeamte im gehobenen Dienst by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Model Nr. 1212 in Eickhorn’s Catalog. The drop foraged, 10 inch long, fullered, spear point, triple edged blade on this one is a work of art! The crisp and dark acid etched panels and spine provide a gorgeous display of: a hunter taking aim at a stag and doe in the forest (obverse), a hunter and six dogs pursuing a wild boar in the forest (reverse) and an oak leaf and acorn motif (spine). The blade is stamped to the reverse with the “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark. The blade rates NM. The original green felt buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is made out of a stitched together black leather base with two stapled on brass scalloped fittings. The top obverse fitting features an acorn lug. The lower obverse features a stag calling in the forest. The reverse of each fitting is numbered “23” underneath the staple. The scabbard sits securely up against the hilt. The oval langet features a grouse on an oak tree branch. The cast brass d-guard hilt is beautifully decorated with oak leaf and acorn panels each ending at a deer hoof. The grip features two stag horn panels each secured with three oak leaf and acorn grip rivets. The brass has all been gold gilded. These are really a work of art!
