Erinnerungszeichen Verdienste um das Feuerlöschwesen 1934 im Etui by The Prussian State Mint. Instituted December 21, 1933, the Fireman’s Commemorative Merits Medal was awarded to firefighters who had served faithfully for at least 25 years or who had rendered outstanding service through special efforts at the risk of their lives. It is constructed out of a die-struck 900 fine silver base that has been chemically burnished. The oval shaped obverse features: a fire fighter (wearing a helmet, with a Prussian eagle on his chest, blowing a horn with his right hand and holding a hose with his left) to the top separated by a mid-point horizontal line, with a burning house, above an “R” (designer Karl Rothmüller) to the bottom. The design is surrounded by “Für Verdienste um das Feuerlöschwesen” with a small swastika to the bottom. The full back reverse is marked: “Preuss. Staatsmünze Silber 900 Fein” and has a horizontally soldered-on pin, hinge catch assembly. It measures 1 1/8 inches wide by 1 11/16 inches tall. Gorgeous patina. The award comes housed in its issue case. The interior hinge is torn, the bottom interior shows age toning and there is minor oxidization to push button. It is otherwise in mint condition. It measures 2 ¾ inches deep by 2 1/8 inches wide by ¾ of an inch thick. A rare piece in near mint condition!
