A 1st Model Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoecker & Co.) of Solingen. The blade on this one looks good. The etched “SMF Solingen” maker mark is nicely executed. Peek right below it and you will see the early inspection/proof mark. The plating on this gives it a mirror like finish and the fit remains nice and tight. The blade rates Exc+. The tip has been shortened and there are some rub marks to the high points. The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The sheet metal based blue pebbled, leather scabbard body looks great. It shows the odd scuff yet retains 99%+ of the leather coverage. The silvered nickel scalloped scabbard fittings remain in nice condition. The fittings are tightly secured with all five original screws. The aluminum chain has 8 lower and 6 upper ringlets that ends at a well working “OLC” marked clip. The hilt looks great. The four brass inserted sun wheel swastikas are a nice treat. The crossguard has some hilts to the underside. The grip leather shows some scuffs matches the scabbard quite nicely. The triple wire wrap remains tightly secured. The hilt has a small wiggle which is quite typical. A picker got this from the veteran’s family and sent it to me. Never been in a collection!
