United States Navy Qualification Badge for a Submarine Engineering Duty Officer. Post WW2 era. All Engineering Duty Officer’s (EDO) seeking submarine qualification must serve successfully for at least one year in a submarine-related waterfront assignment at nuclear shipyard or Supervisor of Shipbuilding Officer, or SOS. It is marked “1/20 10K G.F.” indicating it is constructed out of a 10-karat gold-filled alloy for 1/20th of its total weight. Reverse pin, hinge and catch work well. It measures 3 inches wide by ¾ of an inch tall.
