Second Pattern - Traditions-Gauabzeichen Thüringen in Silber. Instituted June 17, 1933, by Gauleiter Fritz Sauckel, this Gau Badge was donated in bronze, silver and gold to the oldest comrades-in-arms in the Gau of Thuringia in recognitions of their merits in the fight for the Third Reich. It is constructed out a die struck 800 silver base that has been silver washed. The obverse features a large right facing eagle with its left wing pointing horizontally, its right wing downward, its tail feathers coming out the bottom left and is clutching, in its talons, a stagnant swastika with “NSDAP” (to the top arm), “Für Treue” (center) and “Thüring-” (bottom). It is also “800” silver content marked to the bottom edge. The hollow back reverse features a soldered-on sheet metal hinge, soldered-on c-shaped catch and flat pin. It is also is numbered: “1388”. It measures 1 7/8 inches wide by 1 5/8 inches tall. Gorgeous silvering. One of the best examples I’ve seen to date.
