Traditions-Gauabzeichen Thüringen in Bronze by G. Danner Mühlhausen of Thüringen. Instituted June 17, 1933, by Gauleiter Fritz Sauckel, this Gau Badge was donated in bronze, silver and gold to the oldest comrades-in-arms in the Gau of Thuringia in recognitions of their merits in the fight for the Third Reich. It is constructed out a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed and chemically burnished. The obverse features a large right facing eagle with its left wing pointing horizontally, its right wing downward, its tail feathers coming out the bottom left and is clutching, in its talons, a stagnant swastika with “NSDAP” (to the top arm), “Für Treue” (center) and “Thüring-” (bottom). The hollow back reverse features a soldered-on rectangular pin, hinge, and catch assembly. It is also is numbered: “683” (Pg. Kurt Fichtel, Themar in Gau Thüringen). It measures 1 7/8 inches wide by 1 5/8 inches tall. One of the best examples I’ve seen to date.
