A Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse ohne Schwertern by 3 - Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid. The 1st Class War Merit Cross without Swords was awarded for meritorious service behind the lines. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been silver washed, the silver has been absorbed into the zinc. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross with a wreathed swastika to the center. The full back reverse is correctly marked “3”. It also shows a nickel-silver soldered on rectangular plate block hinge, soldered on round plate c-shaped catch and a coke bottle pin. The silver wash remains to the pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures 1 15/16 inches wide and tall. A nice piece!
