A Model 1934 - Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch by Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen. Ernst Röhm Honor daggers were granted to members of the SS/SA who either had uninterrupted service since December 31, 1931 or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to December 31, 1931. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated. The blade on this one looks great! The “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription is 99.9% factory removed with just the tail of Rohm remaining as well as 50% of the maker mark. The “Alles für Deutschland” motto is crisp and beautifully executed! The crossgrain shines quite nicely in the light. The fit and tip are both perfect. The tip has some small stain. The blade rates Exc++. When I removed the 80 year old cosmoline the blade was a beauty with the only distraction being some light spotting from where some moisture was caught under the grease. The dent-free scabbard is steel based and brown anodized. There is lost of lacquer remaining. The patinated solid nickel scabbard fittings look wonderful! The ball is perfect and all four screws remain intact. The patinaed solid nickel silver scabbard fittings look wonderful as well, matching the scabbard fittings perfectly. The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped “Sw” (Sudwest). The light (almost blonde) brown grained hardwood grip is Textbook E. Pack. It is in wonderful shape with no chips or cracks. The solid nickel eagle has been replaced at some point. It has excellent detail and a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 95%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. It is darkened as so many of these early roundels do. Finally finishing this is a great 3piece hanger, if you look hard at the grip you has see that this always had one. Great fits throughout. An excellent piece.
