A Model 1938 Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) Hewer. The bright blade on this one looks beautiful! The crossgrain is easily visible and the sharp teeth to the saw back are in perfect condition! It is stamped “Ges. Geschützt.”. no not necessary but nice to see.. The fit is perfect. The blade rates an easy NM. It shows minor spotting. The brown leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The steel based, black enamel painted scabbard looks good. It shows the common surface spidering. It continues to retain 99% paint coverage. There is a small hit one inch north of the lower fitting to the right, you can find it with your fingers The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look excellent, matching the hilt perfectly. Both throat retaining screws continue to remain intact. The zinc-alloy based nickel-silver plated hilt may be the best I've owned. 99% of plating remains and 75% of the factory lacquer, that's what the yellow is! Most new guys see this and don't even know what it is!! The Third Reich red cross medallion on the crossguard has fine vaulting and detail! The correct bakelite checkered/smooth grip plates are in perfect condition! They are tightly secured by two steel screws. This one also comes with a fine maker marked black leather frog that has all of its rivets and stitching. A nice example!
