A Model 1934 - Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch mit Widmung by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Ernst Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31, 1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time. After the Night of the Long Knives, Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated. As only the name has been removed this variation is known as a Partial Röhm. It looks to be a backyard removal and is also known as a Lazy Man’s Röhm. These daggers are rare and desirable piece among the collecting community… The blade on this one looks excellent! The remaining acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription, “Alles für Deutschland” motto and smooth tail “Carl Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are all dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The blade has some gray. It also has a perfect fit and tip. The blade rates Exc+. It has been cleaned and shows the slightest spotting and the common surface scratches / runner marks. The dent-free sheet metal brown anodized scabbard is in excellent condition. It has some thinning to the finish from wear. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look excellent. The ball is perfectly round and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The hand chased solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings in color and patina. It is poorly Gau marked: “He” (Hessen) and just the H is visible, must have been struck slightly on angle. The crossguard / grip fits are perfect. The crip and crack-free grained hardwood grip is in excellent condition and textbook shape for Eickhorn. It has some light pressure marks throughout from normal wear. The solid nickel eagle has excellent detail and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. Gorgeous matching patina throughout.
