Germany, c.1930 - Zivil-Schirmmütze für Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Aktien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG). The Hamburg America Line, was a transatlantic shipping enterprise established in Hamburg, in 1847. In the early years, the Hamburg America Line exclusively connected European ports with North American ports, such as Hoboken, New Jersey, or New Orleans, Louisiana. The visor is constructed out of a dark navy-blue wool base with a decorative mohair center-band. Attached to the obverse is a cap badge consisting of a hand stitched gold bullion oak leaf wreath surrounding a HAPAG flag on a black wool base. To each side is a peened on gilded brass navy anchor button that holds the black lacquered leather chin cord. The black ribbed center-band displays multiple oak leaf and acorn clusters/vine. The black lacquered visor peak has a reinforced edge and crosshatched underside. The exterior shows some white paint splatters. The interior features a tan leather sweatband that has a brown/tan bowtie to the back. It has tears. The base of the interior has faded light blue silk lining. Above the lining is a translucent diamond moisture shield. The interior shows a fading, stitching loss and use. There is a faded paper towel in between the silk and sweat band. It is quite similar to a DAF visor cap. A rare and unique cap!
