German Empire, Württemberg - Three Piece Medal Bar

German Empire, Kingdom of Württemberg, WWI - Three-Piece Medal Bar. Assembled, sometime around late-1934, for a Württemberg, front line, combatant, WWI veteran enlisted soldier who demonstrated military merit and fought bravely in the Great War. From left to right:

  • 2nd Class Iron Cross 1914 by S-W (Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse 1914 by Sy-Wagner of Berlin, reinstituted August 5, 1914).
  • Military Merit Medal – Type V (Militarverdienstmedaille, reinstituted June 26, 1892)
  • Honor Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords by G7 (Das Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918, instituted July 13, 1934)
The bar consists of a stamped steel sheet metal base, that is covered to the front with each medal’s appropriate rayon ribbon and to the back with a brown wool, assembled with white and grey stitching. The reverse also shows the appropriate: medal keepers, round wire tombak pin, hinge and integral catch assembly. They all remain in well working condition. It measures 3 3/4 inches wide by 3 1/8 inches tall. A great piece!
