An interesting piece! We’d expect to see a 2nd Class Iron Cross 1914 with a 2nd Class Spange (repetition clasp) 1939. I can only guess as to why this is the way it is but that’s how I got it and that’s the way I’m leaving it. Assembled after September 1, 1939, to a solider who fought bravely in WWI and WWII. I believe the Third Reich example is by S&L and the Imperial Cross is marked “Z”, which remains unknown yet is possibly Zeich of Berlin. The reverse paint on the EKII 1939 is cracking and wants to come off. The Imperial cross is gorgeous. The bar remains working well. I’m sure there is a story or reason here somewhere. For a confident collector!
