A M1938 - 2nd Model Kriegsmarine Dolch für Offiziere by Cal Eickhorn of Solingen. The acid etched fouled anchor blade on this one looks excellent. The etching has dark and crisp panels that provide a wonderful contrast to the bright exterior. The stamped squirrel “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark is perfectly executed. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade on this one rates NM. It has the slightest spotting throughout. The original brown felt buffer pad continues to remain intact. The lightning bolt style scabbard is brass based, gold gilded and lacquered. There is one age spotting to the reverse. It remains dent free. It depicts wonderful details especially with the hand enhancing towards the tip. Both throat retaining screws remain intact and unturned. The button continues to work well and tightly secures the scabbard to the hilt. The crossguard and pommel are brass based and gold gilded. The fouled anchors to the crossguard and proudly perched kriegsmarine eagle pommel are all beautifully detailed. The pommel top features some calcification to the crevasses. The grip is wood based and covered in white celluloid. It continues to remain in wonderful shape. The brass double twisted wire wrap remains tightly intact. The correct portepee is in excellent condition. I love when you can tell it’s been on there forever. One that is sure to please..
I was told by the individual who I purchased it from that it came from a member of the Royal Canadian Navy who reopened Bremerhaven and the Baltic ports after Germany’s surrender.
