Early SA Dagger by J. Dirlam & Söhne
A Model 1933 Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by J. Dirlam & Söhne of Solingen. The blade on this looks excellent. The acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and “J.D.S.” wax seal, “J. Dirlam & Söhne Solingen” maker mark are both crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is absolutely stunning and easily visible as you shine it in the light. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates Exc++/NM. There is the slightest age grey and scratches throughout along with the common runner marks. The sheet metal based brown anodized scabbard is in excellent condition. It has a nice light brown finish with only the slightest oxidization spotting throughout. The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings are in nice shape. The bottom fitting and ball has some bumps throughout. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap. The solid nickel-silver crossguards are in wonderful shape. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped “Nrh” (Niederrhein). The brown hardwood grip looks excellent. It shows the typical bumps, scratches and bruises and with one hairline crack to the obverse base. It has perfect fits. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a nice fit. The SA roundel also has a good fit and retains 99%+ of its enamel. A beautiful piece sure to please!
