Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch ohne Widmung by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. Ernst Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31, 1931, or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time. After the Night of the Long Knives, Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated. This example was most likely taken to the factory to have it professionally removed.

The blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription has been completely removed, per mandates. The acid etched “Alles für Deutschland” motto and serrated tail “Carl Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is gorgeous, running the full length of the blade and is easily visible as you shine it in the light. It also has a perfect fit and tip. The blade rates Exc++. It has spotting, age grey and one nick to the edge just above the “ü”. The sheet metal brown anodized scabbard is in excellent condition. It has the slightest pressure mark to the reverse and one water spot to the lower right hand side which wraps around the side and back. It hold a great finish. The solid nickel scabbard fittings look excellent. The ball has a slight push to it leaving a wave to the side of the lower fitting. The ball holds a nice round profile and all four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings perfectly in both color and patina. It is Gau marked: “Nrh” (Niederrhein). The bottom of the lower crossguard is also bench marked: “5”, not necessary but always nice to see. The crossguard / grip fits are perfect. The brown grained hardwood grip is in excellent condition and is the textbook shape for Eickhorn. It has some pressure marks throughout and there is a flake chip to the obverse bottom. The solid nickel eagle has excellent detail and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit.
