Luftwaffen Schwert by Paul Weyersberg of Solingen. First thing you notice when picking these up it that they are noticeably heavier than the later aluminum based examples. The double edged blade on this one is 28 7/8 inches long with a single partial fuller. The etched wreathed broad sword “Paul Weyersberg Solingen” maker mark looks great. The fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It has a shortened tip, a few nicks to the edges and scratches throughout. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The blue, pebbled, leather scabbard body remains in excellent condition with 100% leather coverage! The scabbard nickel-silver scabbard fittings remain dent free and have beautifully patinaed with age, matching the hilt in color and wear. Three of the four screws remain intact. The scabbard sits perfectly up against the hilt. The hilt fittings are solid nickel-silver with separately inserted brass swastikas. This method of creating the golden swastikas was quickly abandon for faster less labor intensive methods. The edge of the pommel looks great with decorative hand enhanced oak leaves and acorns. The grip leather has a few light pressure marks. Both springy brass grip wires remain tightly intact. Overall a beautifully patinaed piece that demonstrates all the quality one comes to expect from an early example!
