Stag Grip – Extraseitengewehr by Robert Klaas of Solingen. The plated, etched, single edged, fullered, drop point, 9 5/8 inch long blade on this one looks great. The single frosted etching is beautiful displaying: “Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit”, above “Ges. Gesch.”, encased in laurels and berries (top and bottom) flanked by the first pattern Luftwaffe eagle (left) and an M35 style helmet with three oak leaves (right) and swirling swastikas. The reverse stamped maker mark: “Robert Klaas + Solingen +” surrounding their kissing cranes, is perfectly executed. The platting gives a wonderful mirror like finish. The blade rates Exc++/NM. It has a loose fit, several nicks to the cutting edge and scratches throughout. The thick sealed brown buffer pad remains intact. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard is in excellent condition. It shows spidering throughout yet retains 96% paint coverage. It remains dent free. The single throat retaining screw remains intact. The hit is injection molded zinc that has been plated. 99% of the plating remains intact. The button continues to work well. There remains a red felt plug in the mortice slot. The two-stag horn grip plates a beautiful touch. They are tightly secured by two nickel-silver grip rivets. This one comes with a blacked leather frog. It retains all of its aluminum rivets and stitching. The reverse is stamped with the maker mark: “Fr. Offermann & Söhne Bensberg 1942”. A great example.
