NPEA Leader Dagger by Carl Eickhorn
Rare & Early - M1936 Nationalpolitische Erziehungsanstalt (NPEA) Kettendolch für Schulungsleiter by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. The blade on this on looks good. The acid etched “Mehr sein als scheinen.” textbook Eickhorn motto and earlier “Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain looks stunning as you shine it in the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It shows age grey and scratches throughout. The sheet metal based green-brown painted scabbard looks excellent. It retains 99% paint coverage with only the commonly seen scratch from the chain. The fittings are nickel-silver plated steel. The ball has one wee bump yet retains a nice round profile. All five scabbard screws remain intact. The aluminum chain has 5 ringlets to the top and 7 to the bottom, ending at a well-working “Ges. Gesch OLC” marked clip. Again, the scabbard has textbook Eichorn features. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The crossguards are zinc based and nickel-silver plated. Typical oxidization to the edges of the grip. The plating remains 95%+ intact. The scabbard / grip fits are perfect. The grained brown hardwood grip is in beautiful condition. No cracks, chips or dents. The aluminum eagle has a hit to its head, yet has a perfect fit and retains some great detail. This piece has all of the textbook earlier Eickhorn features expected on a Chained NPEA Leader Dagger. For those of you who don’t know, we only get one of these, every 5 years or so.
