Kreigsmarine Ärmelschild Narvik - Type 5, Variation 2. Instituted August 19, 1940, the Narvik Campaign Arm Shield was awarded to all German forces that took part in the battles of Narvik between April 9 and June 8, 1940. It is constructed out of die stamped zinc base that has been gold gilded. The obverse depicts a closed winged national eagle clutching a wreathed static swastika in its talons above a bannered “Narvik”, an edelweiss flower (Heer / Gebirgsjäger), that is flanked by “1940” (19 - left, 40 - right) and above a crossed plane propeller (Luftwaffe) and fouled anchor (Kriesmarine), all in a shield type outline. The hollow back reverse has four soldered on flatwire prongs. One of the prongs pressure points wants to break, and is still secured. It measures 3 9/16 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches wide.
