A 1.Modell Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB) Dolch by E&F Horster of Solingen. The blade on this one has age and scratches like someone tried to sharpen it. I say tried because it's not sharp. I know sounds bad but it's not really. The tip is perfect, the fit is perfect, the acid etched maker mark is beautifully executed. This blade rates a Exc+. The solid nickel crossguard is beautifully executed and in fine shape with all matching patina. The black chip and crack-free hardwood grip is in nice shape with honest wear. You hardly ever find them like this! These grips were boiled in aniline and often want to chip as the die tends to make them brittle, this one is definitely better than 95% of them. It has a properly pinned fist pattern RLB insignia. The pins enamel is about 95%. The enamels on these are so thin, and they did not stand up. The pommel is missing and someone long ago put a nut on there. I was going to buy a repro. RLB EM and just use the pommel but I will leave it as is I think it's neat. The black enameled painted scabbard has 20% paint coverage with normal scratches and oxidizing from period wear. The early nickel scabbard fitting are undamaged. All the screws are intact and unturned. It all fits fine. Hard to find in early solid nickel example!
